FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT PC SECURITY TEST ?
1) Is PC Security Test dangerous to my system ?
No. PC Security Test does not use actual viruses.
This is only simulation. There is no risk.
All installed files are automatically removed at the end of the tests.
2) What methods does PC Security Test use to check vulnerabilities ?
PC Security Test follows in 3 steps to check system security :
1) Running fictitious attacks
2) Waiting for reactions of protection software or user manual scanning

3) Can I trust PC Security Test's results ?
The aim of PC Security Test is to check the security of your system against major threats :
viruses, spyware, hackers and Internet Explorer attacks.
The attacks and contaminations simulated by PC Security Test use standard computer
industry methods.
PC Security Test was designed with the help of numerous computer security experts.
Test details :
HACKING :
1. Identify opened ports : Hacking requires open ports. Any firewall should close those not in use.
An internet-connected computer with open ports is very vurlnerable.
2. Port scanning attacks : This is a classic attack that any firewall sould detect.
VIRUSES :
1. Known virus : Simulates an infected file being introduced into your system.
(this uses the EICAR virus test,
a worldwide standard that all anti-virus programs can identify)
The infected file is copied in the system directory of Windows, as is the case with 90% of viruses.
2. Registry change: Adds a "run at windows start up" entry into the Windows registry to load the virus
with Windows. Many viruses do this.
3. Unknown virus : Simulates an infected file being introduced into your system.
The file contains dangerous code (deactivated) and is copied into the Windows system directory.
The aim of this test is to show that a simple scanner is not sufficient
to protect your system.
4. Simulation of a virus loaded in memory : PC Securirty Test simulates running a program
containing malicious code.
SPYWARE :
1. Simulation of spyware running in memory (the classical CMESYS.EXE)
2. Addition of an external component to Internet Explorer : 80% of spyware does this.
3. Unsolicited home page change in Internet Explorer: Many spyware programs do this as well.
A well-protected system should detect and stop all these attacks.
4) I am surprised by my (bad) results
There may be several reasons that your results are not good. Whatever they are,
however, it is important that you take steps to protect to protect your PC.
Every computer should be protected by :
1. A classic anti-virus scanner
2. An spyware scanner
3. Real-time protection software
4. A firewall
There are too many programs in each category to list here.
The user should choose software appropriate to his or her security needs.
Computer magazines and websites often publish reviews of these programs.
5) I have extremely strong virus protection and I still get bad results.
I'm sure PC Security Test is wrong.
In this case, you should ask the software publisher to certify that its software will
detect, stop and remove all existing and future viruses.
Nobody will.
If you get a bad score, it is because one or more threat has not been
detected or neutralized.

3. Anti-virus programs are often incorrectly used or misconfigured.
4. Every month, Microsoft provides some new patch to correct a security issue in Windows,
OutLook or Internet Explorer. Why do you think this is ?
5. IT departments of large companies spend a significant part of their budgets
ensuring system security but do not prevent the installation of
simple anti-virus scanners and a free spyware cleaners.
It would be simplistic to think that protecting a computer is only about installing a program,
even a good one.
The best security is user attention.
